From Sherly's Desk:

The greatest Love

Once I heard a true story.  One young man was employed as a soldier in the army of a king.  He fell in love with a beautiful young lady of his town.  Both were engaged. Time passed by.  The young man did a crime and the king got very angry.  King ordered for the execution of the soldier on a particular day at 6 PM.  In those days they used to ring the church bell every hour of the day to know the time.    All the preparations were made to execute the soldier at that particular time when the Church bell will ring.

The day came for his execution and everybody waited for the church bell to ring at 6 PM, but it was past 5 minutes, still there was no bell sound, ten minutes passed, fifteen minutes and half an hour passed but there was no bell sound.  Everybody were puzzled as no one could understand what happened to the bell ringer.  While they were wondering and thinking what the problem could be, suddenly they saw a young lady rushing toward the place of execution.  She was in a blood bath and her hands were broken.  She came straight to the king and fell before him pleading to the king for pardoning her fiancé.

Everyone standing there then realized why the Church bell did not ring.  This young lady had climbed up to the top of the tower where the huge bell was hung and had clung to the bell hammer. When the bell ringer rang the bell she came between every stroke of the bell hammer and the iron rim of the bell and that was the reason why no one could hear the bell sound at 6 PM.  Bell ringer was an old deaf man and so he also did not realize that the bell did not ring.

The king was greatly surprised seeing her love toward her fiancée.  He ordered for the release of the soldier from punishment and execution.

She loved her fiancé so much that she did not even bother about her life.  In the same way Jesus loved us so much that He sacrificed His life for our redemption.  He came down in this world and died on our behalf.  He shed His precious blood on the cruel cross so that we could be released from our sins and punishment.  His hands were broken for us, His body was broken for us, His blood was shed for us.  There is no other reason except the love that made Him to do this for us.  It was the love that brought Him down and made Him to give the ultimate sacrifice for us.  Even today with His broken arms and with His shed blood, He is pleading to Father, "Please forgive their sins and give them eternal life."

Valentine day is on 14th February, this day think about this greatest love shown to mankind.  There is no greater love than this that when we were yet sinners, Jesus came and died for us.  We are heading towards punishment and eternal damnation but to redeem us He gave Himself for us.  If you have not yet accepted Jesus in your life as your Lord and Savior, this is the time to invite Him in your life.  Even today with His
broken arms and with His shed blood, He is pleading to Father, "Please forgive their sins and give them eternal life."  Will you hear His voice and come to Him today?  Will you accept the greatest love in your life?

Is Bible Infallible?
By Vinod Isaac

So far we explored two areas of Genesis account.
1.) Eye Witness account and
2.)  Material evidence.
In both of these, we see that the evidence is overwhelming. Today we are going to explore another area, that is, Purpose and Attachment'.

Gen 1:26-27, Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.  So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

When God created the other things, every time He said "let there be...." and it was.  But when it came to the creation of Humans, He did not say "let there be man" but He is making a special effort giving a special status as well as special attention. "Let Us make man in Our image", "according to Our likeness". That also enabling man to have dominion over the creation.

Gen 2:7  And the LORD God formed man out of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

Again Genesis 2:7 confirms that God took special effort in creating Humans. He did not simply say "let there be man" but He formed man out of the dust of the ground and then breathed in to his nostrils the breath of life. God being all powerful who brought the animals, plants, birds, fishes and all the other creatures in to existence by just speaking His word could have brought Human being into life in the same way, but no, He breathed into the nostrils of the idol that was made out of clay, a lifeless idol - an artistically designed lump of clay that's all. But when the breath of life was breathed, this lump of clay became a living creature having the ability to speak, think, react of his/her own. Man made out of this lump of clay also had a special thing called personality which is not available in any other creature in the world. That is exactly what Genesis 2:19-20 says that there is no animal, fish or bird on earth comparable to man.

Gen 2:19  Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name.
Gen 2:20  So Adam gave names to all the cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him.

Not only that, man is incomparable to any other species in that God communicated with man. God created Humans with the sole purpose of having fellowship with them. In Genesis 2:16-17 He gave the commandment that they can eat fruit of every tree in the garden except of one. Freedom to eat the fruit of thousands of trees. Even freedom to choose.  Such a great freedom. Genesis 2:19-20 says that He brought animals to Adam and asked him to name those animals. According to Genesis 3:8 God used to come to meet Adam and Eve in the cool of the day. Animals on the earth never got such royal treatment. Adam and Eve had such a prestigious honor and privilege to receive this royal treatment.  But they took it lightly. They did that which was forbidden. They broke the law. They misused the freedom. They got their punishment. Separation from God. Separation from God's best. Reason is simple God is holy and that which is unholy cannot go with holy.  Man broke the very purpose for which he was created.

Gen 2:16-17,  And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, "Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die."

Gen 3:8  And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.

Not only was there a purpose but also there was attachment. God had loved Adam and Eve.  He used to come to talk to them, to have fellowship with them. Purpose was broken, talks were broken, fellowship was broken, man earned his eternal death but the Love, the attachment is not broken.

Gen 3:14-15,  So the LORD God said to the serpent: "Because you have done this, You are cursed more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you shall go, And you shall eat dust All the days of your life. And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel."

In Genesis 3:14,15 He declares that He is going to make a solution for the eternal death that man has earned. Through the seed of  the woman  i.e. through the seed of Mary the mother of Jesus. And that He is going to crush the head of the serpent the deceiver.

Let us examine if this purpose, this attachment and this solution is persistent during times of centuries or not. If it has been persistent, that gives a major credibility to Genesis account. Because you have God declaring that He created every thing. You have evidence of what He created as most of it still exists. You are given purpose of creation and attachment with creation. Now let us examine if this purpose and attachment is persistent or not.

Psa 32:1-2, "Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered.  Blessed is the man to whom the LORD does not impute iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no deceit."

In Psalms 32:1,2  God is calling people to righteousness and the psalm writer says blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven. Whose sin is covered. Sin is still the center stage of concern and blessedness depends on forgiveness of sin.

Isa 1:18  "Come now, and let us reason together," Says the LORD, "Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool.
In Isaiah 1:18 God is calling people to repentance. Again sin is the center stage and washing away of sin is the best state for mankind. God is pleading and trying to communicate saying that their sins are like scarlet they are so dark, they are so terrible and asking them to turn to Him so that He can wash them clean and make them as white as wool.
