This Week's Riddle

From Sherly's Desk

It was math period... Dr. Larry had explained few math problems to solve in an easy way.  Johnny was trying to solve math questions one by one.  He started reading the questions:

Carl is 45 years old; 5 years back his son's age was half of his age.  How many years later his age will be three fold of his son?

A badminton club needs to select 2 mix-double pairs from a group six men and 4 women. In how many ways can this be done?

The more he read the more he got confused.  Oh, I am unable to understand anything, he said in his heart.  Why I have no wisdom?  Why I am unable to understand anything... oh.. his heart was sinking.  He was disappointed because half yearly exams were at hand.  He had no idea what he will do in math paper?  He thought about quarterly exams... ummm... I could not even score the passing marks in math... He took a deep breath.  How I am going to improve my score?  If I could not get passing marks this time, my dad will throw me out... tears welled up his eyes.

All the way to home his mind was thinking about improving the score.  He got an idea... why not I collect my pocket money and take the private tuition classes run by Dr. Larry?  Soon he collected enough money to join the classes.  Johnny was very happy that he could join the classes.  He worked very hard but it seemed as if his mind is not grasping anything.  He shed bitter tears but to no avail.

One day while reading the Bible he came across the verse in James 1:5, "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him."

He could not believe what he read.  He read it again and again and his heart filled with joy.  He knelt down and cried out to God for help.  He said, "God, I tried my best to solve these problems but I could not.  I tried to understand this subject but it is very hard for me.  I am unable to understand anything.  Please Jesus give me your wisdom according to your promise.  And let me excel in my exams."  He cried he prayed and tried to understand those questions again.  He felt as if, he was understanding much better than before.  Every day he started claiming the promise of God.  He asked for His divine wisdom.

Exams were over but Johnny was filled with confidence that God will bless him with good marks.  He had peace and joy in his heart.  Days passed by and one day he heard that his results were out.  He went to his school and found himself in the list of toppers.  He could not believe what he saw neither his friends.  He knelt down and praised God for the wonderful victory in his life.  His friends asked how he scored this much marks?  He testified the great and mighty deeds of Jesus and said, you can also get this wisdom from God.

Story Time - Samson and Delilah (I)

Samson went to Gaza.  When the Gazites were told, "Samson has come here!" they surrounded the place and lay in wait for him all night at the gate of the city. They were quiet all night, saying, "In the morning, when it is daylight, we will kill him."

And Samson lay low till midnight; then he arose at midnight, took hold of the doors of the gate of the city and the two gateposts, pulled them up, bar and all, put them on his shoulders, and carried them to the top of the hill that faces Hebron.

Afterward it happened that he loved a woman in the Valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah.  And the lords of the Philistines came up to her and said to her, "Entice him, and find out where his great strength lies, and by what means we may overpower him, that we may bind him to afflict him; and every one of us will give you eleven hundred pieces of silver."

So Delilah said to Samson, "Please tell me where your great strength lies, and with what you may be bound to afflict you."  And Samson said to her, "If they bind me with seven fresh bowstrings, not yet dried, then I shall become weak, and be like any other man."  So the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven fresh bowstrings, not yet dried, and she bound him with them.  Now men were lying in wait, staying with her in the room. And she said to him, "The Philistines are upon you, Samson!"

But he broke the bowstrings as a strand of yarn breaks when it touches fire. So the secret of his strength was not known.

To be continued...
