Story Time
Horatio
Gates Spafford wrote a very famous hymn in 1873 after seeing tragedies after
tragedies in his life. In 1871 Chicago fire took lives of more than 300 people
and one of them was the son of Horatio Gates Spafford. Two years later Horatio
Gates Spafford and his family decided to go for a vacation to England to join
Moody for Evangelistic crusade. But because he had some work, he sent his wife
and four daughters thinking that he will go later. On the way to England their
ship collided with an English sailing ship and sank within twenty minutes. Their
four daughters died but Ana, his wife survived by clinging on a floating
wreckage. Horatio Gates Spafford got a two words long telegram, "Saved
alone"
He took the next available ship to reach his wife. And when they both finally
met with Dwight Moody these were the words from his mouth, "It is
well,". "The will of God be done." Later he wrote this hymn:
When peace

Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say,
